159. A new toy

After work yesterday, went to One Stop with Yew Peng becoz he wanted to get some DVDs and also a home theatre system. So I thot wat the heck, I'll look at some cameras since mine kaputed 2 days back. Just to see what's in the market. Was thinking i'll get the Canon Ixus 700 since it's Canon (since I'm familiar with the functions and all), but Wee also mentioned I should check out the Sony DSC-T7. I don't like Sony because of their Memory Stick. But, I'll keep an open mind and compare a few others.

Reached One Stop and made our customary stop at the DVD shop. To my suprise, they have the clear copy of Madagascar already. Went ahead and got that. Then went to a camera shop there and asked for the Ixus and the T7. Unfortunately, they didn't have the Ixus 700, but they're the authorised dealer for Sony and they can give me a great deal on the T7. Hmmm, played with the camera and fell in love with it's size and feel (guess I am that shallow after all). Suddenly, I'm swayed towards the T7. The fact that they didn't carry the Ixus 700 didn't help either. Resisted and walked away.

Walked over to Gurney plaza to SenQ to look for Yew Peng's Home Theatre System. While walking to SenQ, we passed by GSC and discovered Mr and Mrs Smith is showing and there was no que, we promptly went ahead and got the tickets and then proceeded to SenQ. I was looking at the camera while Yew Peng went to the sound system section. They carry both the Ixus and the T7. The sales person's recommendation was also the T7. He let me play around with the T7 and even went as far as asking me to take a fwe shots with the camera and he'll print them out for me to compare. Talk about service. Realised we're running late for the movies, I told him that i'll come back after the movies for the demo.

The show was ok. Angelina Jolie looks stunning and the first half of the show is pretty interesting, once the plot is revealed, one realises that it's rather lame. The second half of the movie is filled with lotsa "Rambo" action. Disappointed. Looking forward to the ending so that I can go back to SenQ for the demo.

As promised, the guy set up the camera, I took a 3 shots of different lighting condition and zoom levels. Found that it performed excellent in well lit areas with 1X optical zoom. At max zoom of 3X and low lighting conditions, it's rather snowy. But overall it's a pretty good package. Figured, if I'm gonna get one, this will be it. Talked about the price a liltte bit and decided to buy it. He was telling me that this is the newest camera from Sony and right now they have a promotion on it. They're throwing in an additional 256MB memory stick free. and for an additional RM125, I get a total of 5 yrs full warranty on this baby. Gosh, I'm weak. I decided to go ahead and get it. Don't want to make the same mistake of paying a bomb for my previous camera and realised that they launched a newer model at the same price a month later. :P Guess with this model, it's shouldn't happen coz they just launched this a month back, i think.

Ended the nite at Grand Bay Cafe with Lai, Anthony, Nicholas, Hung and Charles. After a few drinks, we went to Sany Char Koay Teow at Sg Dua for, yes, you guessed it, Char Koay Teow. :)

Woke up early today and couldn't wait to charge up the camera and put it to work :) The only complain so far about this camera is the lack of a tripod mounting point. You have to screw on the docking station and the tripod mounting point is on the docking station. Darn it.

Went for lunch with Parents, Seng and Wee. Nothing special, we just went to the Teowchew porridge place opposite Bkt Jambul Complex. Dad wanted to shop for shorts and mom wanted some running/walking shoes. I was with mom looking for her shoes and she got one funky looking Nike shoe and asked the lady for her size. She was complaining about how expensive these shoes are nowadays. I figured I haven't done anything nice for her in a long time, so I told her not to worry about it and just choose one she likes and I'll buy it for her. The lady came back with the shoe and she tried it on. Unfortunately, she doesn't like the feel of the shoe, she complained that the built in "sock" is very restrictive. I told her it's part of the show design so that she won't sprain her ankle when running/walking. She's not convinced. We went to another shop, she didn't spot anything she likes. Thus ends the shoe adventure, Dad did manage to find a pair of shorts though.

Got home and realised how dirty my car is, so decided to give it a bath. After that, played with my camera some more. Seng came back with Balik Pulau laksa and bought some home for us. Finished that and went over to his room with Wee and Raine to watch Madagascar. The show is suprisingly funny. Well done Dreamworks.

Got nothing else planned for this evening except watching Montreal F1 with Wee at midnite tonite.

The T7 is good at catching the details and the different shades of green

It's amazing capability to capture macro shots

Normal shot without flash (left) and in Nite mode with auto shutter speed adjustment
