636. Rantings.......

13th Oct
After reading about all the flaws in the new 3G iPhone, I finally have the chance to test it out courtesy of Chong. Well, first impression was really good. It's sleeker than my i780 and the touch interface is really responsive. That's abt where it ends. The more I play with it, the more I began to dislike it. The "trendsetter arguement" is overated! It lacks basic phone functions out of the box. I can't send MMS, I can't forward smses, I can't cut & paste, I don't have advance camera functions (zoom or brightness nevermind flash) and also I can't capture videos. GPS didn't work too well either, I need to download data in order for it to refresh the map. Crap! But I can't deny the cool factor. Everyone still wants one......secretly I'd get one, but it means I'll have to learn to hack it to get what I want out of it. A shame really. For such a premium product, I don't understand why they can't include all these softwares. These are simple SOFTWARE limitations! Why didn't they address this? Becoz they're trendsetters? Sheesh, gimme a break, if they're trendsetters, then set a trend, but don't take away the basic ammenities. Not everyone can afford the unlimited data packages as yet. Perhaps when data becomes dirt cheap, then this phone will make more sense.........or when the whole world adopts data, then MMS will be a thing of the past......

The 3G iPhone & my i780

Anyway, OK, enough ranting abt the phone. I hope the next iPhone would come back down to earth and address these short comings. Till, then, no iPhone for me (unless it's sub RM1000).

Let's see now, what else happened........Oh yeah, my fish died. Yup, dead! It stopped eating the pellets I bought for it. I even tried mosquitoes. Didn't work. I think it was protesting something, too bad I don't speak fish, so its hunger strike ultimately meant nothing. Well, guess I won't get the aquarium I was planning to. Would've end up flushing all the money down the drain. I think I'll settle for those 3D aquarium themed screen savers.

Wee took Isaac to the driving range hoping to make a Tiger Woods outta him. :)

17th Oct
To my surprise, I received a rather heavy GDex package (note how squashed the package looks and count how many fragile stickers were on the package!). It shows it's sent from Kuching. It's a cake! I kid you not! It's a home baked fruit cake from Tening all the way from Kuching.....and it's not even my birthday :) Thanks T. It was delicious.

18th Oct
Wilson and Jaclyn got married. Honestly this is the most Indian I've seen him. :D Those who know him will attest to this. It is however a strange experience, there were candies as table gifts, there's a stray clown running around and NO alcohol! Wilson's wedding and no alcohol! :) 'Twas nice to catch up with the old schoolmates nonetheless. Some I've not met for at 15yrs.

Had a mini reunion with old uni mates in KL. As always it's alway nice to see what everyone is up to these days. Thanks to technology, we were even able to set up a video call to Franco in US. We also took the opportunity to celebrate Sang Sang's b'day while we were there. :)

27th Oct
It's Sophia's b'day and I've taken photography duties at her party. I gotta say, Seok Hong and Chuwy sure went thru a lot of trouble to organize this party. Even the grandparents drove all the way from Penang for the party.

Sophia & grandparents; Sophia & dad

Sean; They even have sand art

Sophia's gift from me

After cleaning up and all, Chuwy & I head to Wisma Tun Sambanthan for Comedy Court's performance of "We Don't Swear!". Laughed our asses off. Hats off to them.

635. The Man who can't be moved

A friend sent me this song and now it's stuck in my head!!!

You can view the video here!

The Script are a three-piece Irish rock band from Dublin, Ireland. They are currently based in London after signing to RCA Label Group imprint Phonogenic, and their debut album "The Script" was released in August 2008.

Mark and Danny are former producers who worked with Rodney Jerkins, the Neptunes, Teddy Reilly and Dallas Austin. They were based in the US, but moved back to Dublin where they recruited Glen for their new band. The band signed to Phonogenic in spring 2007, and released an EP on Last.FM.

Their debut single "We Cry" received 'Single of the Week' on RTÉ 2FM, Today FM and by Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 1[1], and was Kevin Hughes' tune of the week on GCap Media's The One Network show Music Control. Their second single 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved' was also Kevin Hughes Tune Of The Week on Music Control Radio, as well as Jo Wiley's pet sound. Their debut album The Script reached number 1 in the UK and Ireland the week it came out.

The Man Who Can't Be Moved
The Script

Going back to the corner where I first saw you,
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag I'm not gonna move,
Got some words on cardboard got your picture in my hand,
Saying if you see this girl can you tell her where I am,
Some try to hand me money they don't understand,
I'm not...broke I'm just a broken hearted man,
I know it makes no sense, but what else can I do,
How can I move on when I'm still in love with you...

Cos if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me,
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I can be,
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet,
And you'd see me waiting for you on the corner of the street.

So I'm not moving...
I'm not moving.

Policeman says son you can't stay here,
I said there's someone I'm waiting for if it's a day, a month, a year,
Gotta stand my ground even if it rains or snows,
If she changes her mind this is the first place she will go.

I'm not moving...
I'm not moving.

People talk about the guy
Who's waiting on a girl...
Oohoohwoo
There are no holes in his shoes
But a big hole in his world...
Hmmmm

and maybe I'll get famous as man who can't be moved,
And maybe you won't mean to but you'll see me on the news,
And you'll come running to the corner...
Cos you'll know it's just for you

I'm the man who can't be moved
I'm the man who can't be moved...

Cos if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me,
And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I can be,
Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet,
And you'd see me waiting for you on the corner of the street.
[Repeat in background]

So I'm not moving...
I'm not moving.

I'm not moving...
I'm not moving.

Going back to the corner where I first saw you,
Gonna camp in my sleeping bag not I'm not gonna move.

634. Korean Palace

Took some family time with Wee, Raine and Isaac. We went round town in search for a sound system and TV for Wee's new house. I'm looking for CDs and also a new power supply for my PC. Turns out my PC was so old they don't make the power supplies for them anymore. So I just end up getting a HDD casing instead. Then we headed to the Bayu to check out another AV shop. Since we're there, we decided to have Korean food upstairs. This is a rather new place opened just 6mths back or so. It's called Korea Palace. The food was surprisingly good. It's not exactly cheap, but it's nice. After that, we got some dessert from Ritz cake house and head home to watch Open Season before calling it a nite.

Saw the moon as I was closing the blinds in my room. Couldn't help it, so thot I'll whip out my camera and take a shot.

633. Bangkok Dangerous.....

......Not really, it was a lot more fun than I thot. I always thot that Bangkok was like KL. Someone like me who prefers lil towns or somewhere that's not congested can't possibly enjoy a "vacation" in Bangkok right? Well, I was wrong. OK, so it was still congested as hell, but taking the MRT solved that problem and the tut tut was fun too. :) The Hotel was nice, the food was good, the parties were awesome, river cruise were charming and loved the trip to Ayutthaya Province (that's the whole idea of the trip actually). Good thing I left just before the riot in Bangkok.

I'll let the pix do the talking......

IMax Screening of Eagle Eye
Decided to watch Eagle Eye on IMax, but here's the verdict. The show was really good, but IMax? errrr, I just realised we have IMax in Penang too. Just buy a regular ticket at GSC Gurney Plaza and ask for the seats abt 5 rows from the screen, for Super IMax experience, go ahead, get the seats on the first row. I kid u not, dat's what it was. I bet the 3D will be better, but for regular movie, just go for the regular cinemas.

In the cinema; Traffic jam @ BKK and this is @ nite

Being atop one of the tallest skyscrapers in Thailand makes us easy to find. However, the Dome was never intended as an ivory tower or a one-note attraction. Too often, it seems that dining and entertainment venues forge their identities out of a single attraction; the result being a tourist magnet that is worth one snapshot, but never a return visit. That, quite simply, is not who we are.

The Dome is a venue for all with a passion for unembellished quality. Our motto of providing rare, simple elegance means nothing more than recognizing that good food comes from good ingredients, and that a truly authentic atmosphere comes from creating an organic environment. Bringing them together requires work, of course, but the difference is one that our guests can always sense what we are all about, even if they cannot quite describe it.

Break Out
Korean ‘Breakout’
BEC-Tero Entertainment and Singha Corporation will host Breakout, a dance comedy from the producers of Jump. With extreme dance moves by the highly skilled B-boys and the DJ’s tunes, the Korean show will bring laughter and joy to the audience. Breakout tells the story of five clumsy prisoners who are seeking freedom after discovering an ancient and sacred text.
